Community Education

The goal of MGS Community Education is to actively promote all aspects of genealogy for beginners and more experienced searchers.  These education sessions can be in person in a variety of locations not just in Winnipeg, but we welcome invitations from any organization.  In addition, our Zoom presentations are listed on Eventbrite and can be attended online.

Online Presentations

MGS has online presentations on Zoom. You can sign up at Eventbrite to attend.  

MGS Library/Resource Centre presentations

We have education and research presentations in our library/resource centre that are open to not only members, but also the public. In addition, MGS hosts public events in conjunction with Doors Open Winnipeg, and Culture Days Manitoba.  Check the MGS Calendar to see upcoming events. 

SE & Winnipeg Branch presentations

SE & Winnipeg Branch regularly presents genealogy research sessions throughout the year. For a small additional fee to your MGS membership, you can attend these sessions as a benefit of branch membership. See the SE & Winnipeg Branch pages for more information.

South West Branch presentations

The South West Branch (Brandon) regularly presents genealogy research sessions throughout the year. For a small additional fee to your MGS membership, you can attend these sessions as a benefit of branch membership, or you can pay for each session you attend if you are not a member. Information Booth at your community event

MGS also can provide an information booth for your community event.  In the past, we have had booths at the Manitoba Museum, Manitoba Highland Gathering, and the Scottish Pavilion at Folklorama.  Contact us at Outreach@mbgenealogy.com

Presentations in Your Organization

Volunteers are available to come to individual organizations to give presentations on topics of your choice.  In the past, this has included school in-services (SAGE), as well as presentations at various places like Seniors Centres, McNally Robinson, and so forth.  Email outreach@mbgenealogy.com to make arrangements.

If you or your group are interested in learning more about Genealogy, a knowledgeable member of the Manitoba Genealogical Society could give a presentation on a topic of your choice. Please contact the Community Education  Chair at outreach@mbgenealogy.com to discuss what you would like to present. We try to accommodate as many requests as possible.
