William Andrew “Bill” KACHUR (1903-1983)

William was born in the RM of Whitemouth on 23 March 1903, the son of Andrew Kachur and Anastasia Tancony. He received his education at Stoney Hill School near Elma and at St. John’s High School in Winnipeg. He then attended Normal School, where he received his teaching diploma and later spent three years studying engineering at the University of Manitoba.

On 23 August 1935, he married Anne Elizabeth Barski (1911-2009) at Winnipeg and they had three children: Ronald William (1939-1939), Gerald, Irene and (wife of John Grewinski).

Educator

William spent most of his years teaching school in rural Manitoba, teaching at Juno School, Barkfield School, Elma School, Fisher Branch School and Lac du Bonnet School. He retired from public school teaching in 1964 and moved from Lac du Bonnet to Winnipeg, where he taught Adult Education classes at Fort Osborne Barracks until 1971.

 He was employed by the Great-West Life Assurance Company for five years and was a member of their President’s Club from 1945 to 1947.

He died at Winnipeg on 14 October 1983 and was buried in the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
