MANI Update September 2023
by Pat Allan, MANI volunteer.
The MANI (Manitoba Name Index) is a member benefit and consists of indexes from many sources. When searching for a name, you will see these codes under the column ‘type’. This is what they mean. This means that the name you are searching is found in those indexed records.
- A = Articles
- B = Birth
- BU = Burial
- C = Census
- CB = Christening/Baptism
- CM = Church Marriage
- CT = Cemetery Transcription
- D = Death
- E = Employment Record
- FC = Funeral Card
- FH = Family History
- IM = In Memoriams
- LH = Local History
- M = Marriage
- N = Newspapers
- NC = Note to Creditors
- O = Obituary
- PI = Publication Index
- SR = Servant Record
- T = Transcribers
They can then be searched for at the MGS Resource Centre or you can purchase a single source search for $15 in our store to have someone else search for you.
An update from Pat Allan, MGS volunteer extraordinaire:
Obituary Tables
I’ve been working on deleting duplicate entries on obituary tables – have dumped ~25,000 from WinPap & ~6000 from RuralObits. I’ve been adding the maiden names to the new column added for this purpose; MANI search engine checks this field as well as “surname” field making it unnecessary to have 2 separate entries (as previously done).
Local History Books
I’ve also received indexes for local history books which I’ve completed processing & uploaded. There are now 102 local history book indexes on MANI, along with some other books/files.
Thank you to our volunteers who have been indexing the local history books.
