Gerald Frederick HABING (1908-1984)

Born at Tyndall on 18 August 1908, he was the son of Frederick George Habing (1884-1977) and Elizabeth Wilhelmina Hadaller (1888-1986). He married Lillian Maude Fisher (1914-2003) on 21 June 1935 and they had six children: Gerald Alfred Frederick (1939-2019), Elizabeth (wife of Gerald Malko), Sharon (wife of Gerald Krowchak), Robert, Kenneth and Deryl.

They farmed at Hazelridge from 1935 to 1953 and then moved to Kelwood where they farmed until retirement in 1969. They settled at Anola in 1980.

Farmer, Community Activist

Active in community affairs, he led 4H clubs, served as President of the Manitoba Federation of Agriculture, was a Commissioner of the Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board (1948-1961) during the period of rural electrification, a director of the Manitoba Honey Co-op and National Honey Board, and a director of the Manitoba Medical Board. He served on the Kelwood School Board and Rossmere School Board, and was a life member of the Kelwood Agricultural Society.

He died at his Beausejour on 04 January 1984 and was buried in the Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
