Lot 12 – Short Wave Portable Radio

This is a rare, vintage Zenith Royal 1000-D All Transistor Trans-Oceanic Radio. It was purchased between 1957 & 1962 for a very young enthusiast & his dad. This radio has a unique design with genuine leather covering an all-metal flip-down cabinet at the front with a log chart located in the flip-down door. It’s a fascinating read in itself. The band switch on the side operates the cylinder dial scale read through the front window. The top handle has a push button on the side that releases the handle up where the antenna is housed. It extends up several feet.
It works great taking a whopping 8 D cell batteries because the battery life was better than others with batteries at the time, with no provision for external power. I was able to tune all the local radio stations clearly but did not spend time learning how to search for far away networks or weather channels. I’m sure it would be a fascinating study & a prize for a collector or radio hobbyist.
