Growing Pains at Age 47

Beware the Ides of March. Men at some time are masters of their fates. But in ourselves, that we are underlings. But, for mine own part, it was Greek to me.”   – Shakespeare

“Cry ‘Havoc!’ , and let slip the dogs of war.”

I am so glad March is over!  The Vernal Equinox, the alignment of planets that soothsayers say has significance, amazing storms on our sun causing weather havoc on earth.  At MGS:  website issues, transfer of website to a new server, new membership area glitches, disappearing posts on the website, launching of MANI on the new server, mysterious changing urls and more.  “Thou dost conspire against thy friend, Lago…” – Shakespeare

Our tale of woe at MGS this March was some very real growing pains at age 47.  BUT, we have come out the other side, things are smoothing out, angry emails have stopped, and generally peace is coming back to the realm of MGS.  But what a ride it was.

I would like to apologize to everyone who got irritated with the problems we were having—and, we were having the same problems multiplied!  Everyone was working long hours, reading tutorials, watching training videos, replying to complaints, and generally fixing the glitches that were identified as we stepped into Shakespeare’s Brave New World in our bid to bring MGS to into the 21st Century–and bring in potential new members who want and expect technology.

Remember, we are all volunteers and not IT specialists, so we had to identify the process that was not working and then figure out how to fix it.  Some of us are working many hours daily for no pay, so please be considerate towards our precious volunteers.

Regarding the March 2023 Generations Digital Journal, we sent it out twice.  The first time the URLs worked when it was checked, and then didn’t work when the website urls all went crazy.  So, we resent it with the new urls.  Well, the old urls are back, so if you are having issues, please go back to the first journal.  We really don’t know what happened because one day it was one way, then it changed, and then later, it was back.  Crazy March Madness!

MGS News for March 2023  Here is the first sending that works now.

I would like to acknowledge the long hours put in by Aleta Foreman, VP Information Technology, Martha McLeod, Membership Chair, and Gloria McNabb, Treasurer, as they worked to rectify the technical problems we had.  We are happy to report that we haven’t had any reports of errors for two days now!  I take that as a win!!!!  Wait!  It’s April 2nd.  Thank goodness March is over.
