Gordon Charles Blair

 

Gordon Charles Blair RCAF Yorkshire England 1944

F/O Gordon Charles Blair was born in Oakville, Manitoba on January 17, 1924 to Charles Montgomery Blair and Marion Dunwood Frahm McCosh. He was a member of the RAF and a former member of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He enlisted in Winnipeg on March 19, 1941, and was posted to No.2 Manning Depot. He was posted overseas on March 30, 1942, to the 49 Squadron RAF.

Gordon completed two tours of duty between 1943 and 1945. The first tour was 30 sorties (198 hours 51 minutes), from November 15, 1942, to September 29, 1943, while the second tour was 13 sorties (97 hours five minutes), from February 14 to 22 April 22, 1945. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He was mentioned in Despatches – overseas twice On June 8, 1944, and again on August 11,1944.

He returned safely home after the war, married and raised two daughters.  He was married on February 26, 1949 in Trenton, Ontario to Laura Katherine Belnap. He died on April 1, 1978 and is buried in the Oakville Cemetery.
