Daryl Dumanski (m.s. McCowan) has been active in MGS for about 35 years holding many positions on Council and with the Southeast and Winnipeg Branch including President for both. She developed some beginner workshops under the tutelage of other knowledgeable members and has delivered many presentations. She favours working on ‘always getting started’, visual and textual documentation and telling family stories through a simple type of heritage scrap-booking system. Inheriting two trunks of family treasures she became the family keeper and historian.
She is a visual designer with a degree in Interior Design and the Executive Director for another cultural organization, the Forum Art Centre. Engaged with community and business groups she was nominated for the 2012 YMCA – YWCA Women of Distinction Awards in Leadership and Management and delighted as the recipient of MGS awards.
Daryl shares her monumental amount of genealogical ‘stuff’ in small segments with her family every year on ‘Boxing Day’. And whenever the opportunity arises pulls out another heritage file or album and is working towards digitizing the collection to distribute to the hundreds of relatives.
