George Thomas MacBean 1879-1916

George Thomas MacBean was born in Moose Factory, Ontario, in 1879, the son of William Shaw and Elizabeth (Turner) MacBean. His family moved to Winnipeg from Moose Factory in 1893.

He enlisted in the CEF on 30 April 1915 at Portage La Prairie. His sister, Mrs. Margret Bryan, was listed as his next of kin. Although initially he was recruited to the 44th Battalion, he became a private in the 27th Battalion.

On 15 September 1916, he was killed in action in an attack southwest of Courcelette during the battle of Flers-Courcelette. He is memorialized on the Vimy Memorial.
