MGS Upgrades – Update

The MGS was recently advised in April, 2023, that its grant application to the Manitoba Arts, Culture, and Sport in Community Small Capital and Special Initiatives fund was approved in full – $25,000. Rick Walker, Research Chair and his team initiated this application in the fall of 2022.

The project will include: replacing all existing carpeting in the MGS resource centre to make it a more inviting, safe, clean and accessible space.  I am sure this carpet was the original carpet when this strip mall was built.  It has seen better days.  This is presently in the quote stage and we are all excited to see this project completed.  ONGOING.

Our unit exterior signage above the entrance does not adequately identify our organization and is not visible from the street. Approval for new signage was granted as part of this request.  COMPLETED.

To enhance our services, two new commercial grade scanners were approved. These scanners will be used by the public to scan old photographs, original documents, and other genealogical records to ensure they are preserved in a digital format. This will provide additional benefits for our members.  COMPLETED.

If you haven’t tried this scanner yet, I highly recommend that you do.  It creates very high quality images, and it’s ability to OCR your scanned documents is fabulous!  I have an old typed document that I scanned with the OCR feature enabled.  I now have a great PDF document to share with family members that is completely searchable via the OCR feature.  So fabulous!  I have a box of old negatives that I inherited.  I am going to try those next.  This scanner is amazing!

Come on down and try it out.  The MGS Resource Centre Library is open Tue – Wed – Thur from 10 am to 3 pm and one Saturday per month by appointment—Nov 18; Dec 2.
