September 9-10, 2023. 9 am – 5:00 pm   Ships to Shore Genealogy Conference

September 15th, 2023 is the 250th anniversary of the landing of the Ship Hector at Pictou, Nova Scotia. Known as Canada’s Mayflower, the Ship Hector brought 189 passengers to Pictou starting a “wave” of Scottish immigration to Nova Scotia and Canada.

A genealogy and local history conference is being planned to celebrate this milestone, during the weekend of September 9 & 10, 2023. September 9th will include a full day of speakers, who will present information on local history, immigration, genealogy and much more. Sunday, Sept 10 will include a few group activities to choose from. We hope you will join us for an interesting weekend

The Ships to Shore Genealogy Conference will take place Sept. 9 and Sept. 10 at the Pictou County Wellness Centre. The conference will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The Ship Hector has been called “Canada’s Mayflower,” and its arrival in 1773 was part of a mass migration of Scottish settlers to Nova Scotia. The celebrations are expected to bring in people from around North America who can trace their lineage to this area.

Presented by:
