“Land Records And Property Maps: Cadastral Surveys of Galicia” by Brian J. Lenius, President Emeritus of EEGS
Wednesday January 15, 2020. 7:00 PM
Cadastral maps and records are an excellent family history source for Ukrainian, Polish, German, and Jewish researchers. Brian will examine the three land surveys of the Austrian Empire. The first two surveys, known as the Josefinian (1785-88) and Franciscan (1819-1820) Cadastres, had no maps, but included useful family history information such as names, house numbers, parcel sizes, and taxes. The third survey, known as the Stabile Cadastre (1817-1860s), included the same information, but also detailed maps showing individual houses, barns, gardens, and churches. Brian has conducted research on cadastral maps and records for 30 years including 23 research trips (1994-2019) to Poland and Ukraine.
