Book Description

This book lists all the birth, marriage and death notices from Manitoba newspapers for 1882-1884.  It references the name and date of the newspaper in which the entry can be found.  It takes it’s information from 27 different newspapers from the Birtle Observer to the Winnipeg Daily Times.  For the genealogist, this index lets you know where to look for your family information.  This list is from all the available English and French language newspapers published in Manitoba in 1882 through 1884.

The book contains four pages of abbreviations for names of newspapers, family relationships, religious abbreviations, occupations and land/geographical abbreviations as well as standard province and state abbreviations.  There are two maps showing where the provincial boundaries were and a map of Canada giving the names of various regions of Canada.  There are a few photos scatter throughout the book at the head of each section.  Please see the Table of Contents image for more detail.

This publication was a project of the Manitoba Genealogical Society and in particular the Special Projects Book Committee.  Kathleen Rooke Stokes was the Committee Chair, an Editor & Researcher.   The Manitoba Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Historical Preservation and Promotion Award was awarded on May 11, 2017, to Ms. Kathleen Stokes of the Manitoba Genealogical Society.
