Hallgrimur Frederick “Grimsi” MAGNUSSON (1887-1965)

Hallgrimur was born in Arnes, Manitoba on 30 May 1887, the son of Johannes Magnusson (1852-1917) and Kristin Sigurbjornsdottir (1866-1925).

On 11 February 1923 in Winnipeg, he married Sigridur Gudmundina Oddson (1903-1990) and they had six children: Emily Margret (1923-1961, wife of Kristinn Franklin Stevens), Johannes “Joe” (1925-2015), Robert Frederik (1929-1999), Gudni, Wanda (wife of Ron Fulton) and Christine (wife of Norman Bibeau).

Fisherman and Boat Builder

He served overseas in the First World War with the Fort Garry Horse and was a member of the Gimli Branch of the Canadian Legion.

Grimsi resided at Arnes until moving to Gimli about 1939. He worked as a fisherman and boat builder.

Hallgrimur died at Winnipeg on 15 December 1965 and was buried in the Gimli Cemetery.
