Before the popularity of the internet, family history research was done in local libraries or by travelling to your ancestral homes. It was something that few people could do because the costs would add up a lot more quickly than if you could stay at home.
With the internet and websites like Ancestry or Findmypast, family history research became a lot more accessible. Now, these sites have millions of users exploring documents from all over the world. While travel to ancestral homes is still worthwhile if you’re able, the internet has given people a way to explore worldwide records from the comfort of their homes.
